The Significance of Allah's Names: Al-Hayy and Al-Qayyoom

In the Friday sermon at Masjid al-Haram, Sheikh Maher al-Mu'aiqly emphasized the profound importance of contemplating Allah's beautiful names, specifically focusing on 'Al-Hayy' (The Ever-Living) and 'Al-Qayyoom' (The Sustainer). He explained that these two names encompass all of Allah's attributes of perfection and action, and are widely regarded by scholars as His Greatest Name (Ism Allah al-A'zam), through which prayers are answered. 'Al-Hayy' signifies His absolute, eternal life free from sleep or death, while 'Al-Qayyoom' denotes His self-subsistence and His absolute preservation of the heavens and the earth. The Sheikh encouraged believers to cultivate a deep reliance on Allah by invoking these names during times of distress, following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), who turned to them in moments of hardship.
