June 26, 2026
In his Friday sermon at Masjid al-Haram, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais welcomed the new Hijri year and highlighted the spiritual significance of the sacred month of Muharram. He encouraged the congregation to fast on the day of Ashura, commemorating the day Allah saved Prophet Musa from Pharaoh, as well as fasting a day before or after to follow the prophetic tradition. The Sheikh reflected deeply on the historical event of the Hijrah, emphasizing the unwavering trust in Allah demonstrated by the Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr in the cave of Thawr. He also discussed the establishment of the Hijri calendar under Umar ibn al-Khattab as a means to preserve Islamic identity. Finally, he urged parents to nurture their children with sound Islamic values, protecting them from intellectual deviations, and closed with prayers for Masjid al-Aqsa and the oppressed Muslims in Palestine.
