Human Weakness, Reliance on Allah, and Avoiding Self-Admiration

Sheikh Faisal Ghazzawi
Masjid al-Haram, Makkah
January 02, 2026
Sheikh Faisal Ghazzawi emphasized the inherent weakness of humanity, citing Quranic verses like "Allah is the one who created you from weakness" and "man was created weak." He highlighted that humans are prone to desires and temptations, unable to resist unless Allah protects them. The sermon stressed that regardless of one's capabilities, reliance should always be on Allah, as self-admiration and arrogance lead to failure, citing examples from Iblis, the owner of the two gardens, and the Battle of Hunayn. Sheikh Ghazzawi encouraged constant supplication and humility, quoting the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) du'a, "O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek aid, rectify all my affairs, and do not entrust me to myself for the blink of an eye," and Ibn Mas'ud's similar prayer, warning against the dangers of being left to one's own devices. He concluded by affirming that true trust in Allah ensures His care and protection, while self-admiration is a destructive trait.
