Brotherhood, Avoiding Harm, and Upholding Rights in Islam

Sheikh Usamah Abdul Aziz Al-Khayyat
Masjid al-Haram, Makkah
November 28, 2025
Sheikh Usamah Abdul Aziz Al-Khayyat emphasized the profound importance of Islamic brotherhood, calling believers to embody excellent conduct and avoid all forms of harm. He highlighted that true brotherhood, as stated in the Quran (49:10), necessitates self-sacrifice, helping others, and relieving distress. The sermon strongly condemned verbal and physical harm, including slander and backbiting, citing a Hadith that warns of severe punishment for those who falsely accuse a believer: 'Whoever says about a believer what is not in him, Allah will imprison him in the mud of Khabal until he retracts what he said.' The Sheikh urged Muslims to adhere to the Prophet's teaching, 'The Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, he does not wrong him nor does he hand him over,' and to respond to ignorance with wisdom, following the example of the righteous predecessors to achieve success and Allah's pleasure.
