Seeking Allah's Guidance through Istikhara: A Path to Tranquility

Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah al-Humaid
Masjid al-Haram, Makkah
August 22, 2025
The sermon emphasized the profound significance of Istikhara (seeking guidance from Allah) as a pure act of Tawhid (monotheism) and reliance on the Almighty, taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with the same importance as teaching Surahs of the Quran. It clarified that Istikhara is intended for permissible matters where the path is unclear, not for obligatory or forbidden actions, and should ideally be performed before making a final decision. The Imam detailed the method of Istikhara prayer and its specific supplication, highlighting that it should be preceded by consultation (Istishara) to combine both spiritual and worldly wisdom. After performing Istikhara, one should proceed with what feels right, trusting in Allah's choice without seeking omens or signs in dreams. The ultimate message conveyed was that true happiness and contentment lie in seeking Allah's guidance and accepting His divine decree, leading to inner peace and a profound sense of submission.
