The Significance and Pillars of Thankfulness (Shukr)

Sheikh Yasir al-Dawsari
Masjid al-Haram, Makkah
January 31, 2025
Sheikh Yasir al-Dawsari reminded the congregants of the immense blessings bestowed by Allah and the paramount importance of gratitude (Shukr). He highlighted that gratitude is a noble characteristic of prophets like Noah and Abraham, and our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) exemplified it by prostrating in thanks. The sermon emphasized that gratitude is expressed through acknowledging blessings with the heart, praising Allah with the tongue, and utilizing these blessings in obedience to Him, warning that ingratitude leads to the removal of blessings, as stated in the Quran (14:7). The Sheikh urged believers to reflect on Allah's favors, look to those less fortunate, remember accountability for blessings, and constantly supplicate to Allah for assistance in being grateful, quoting the Prophet's du'a: "O Allah, help me to remember You, thank You, and worship You well."
